GRA270: Minimalist Posters revisions

So after an interesting critique from both my classmates and professor, I've made some changes to my minimalist poster designs. I feel that these revisions are a better solution for these designs. The initial concepts can be found here: http://graemethedigitalmediaartist.blogspot.com/2012/07/gra270-design-process-minimalist-poster.html

Got rid of the bloody hand print as it had more to do with CSI than Criminal Minds. The show focuses on the actions of the criminal, why they do it and figure out where he'll strike next. So I decided to use an illustration of a brain I found online.

Got rid of the shadow simply because I felt it was too distracting; takes away from the lock which is the primary element in the poster.

For Fast Five and The A-Team, I simply removed the type to avoid crowding the images.

Made the mask a surgical blue colour so it would be easier to identify as a mask and I fixed the perspective of the bloody droplets.

GRA270 The Design Process: Minimalist Poster concepts

For this assignment, we were asked to design posters for 5 different TV shows/Movies/Video Games/Book/Song using the "minimalist" technique. Not sure if I got the technique down right, but these are my initial concepts; I feel that the Storage Wars, The A-Team and Fast Five are the 3 strong ones here. Will get feed back from my professor on Thursday.

GRA241: Remake Assignment: The Birth of Venus

So instead of doing the Linocut project, our prof decided to give us another project instead. For this project, you have to take a famous piece of artwork and remake it with your own style. I chose 'The Birth of Venus' by Sandro Botticelli. I remade the famous piece into a cartoon. He are the concepts:

The first concept, I wanted to focus on just the girl. Instead of having the other woman with the dress ready to cover her up, I decided to replace her with two birds carrying a piece of cloth.

This one is mainly focusing on the two girls. I'm not sure if I'll end up with enough time to remake all four people plus colour it.

GRA210: 4 Elements of Graphic Design/Bad Yellow Pages Ad

So it's the start of another semester at Seneca College. This semester runs some classes as a "compressed course", meaning that instead of class once a week, we have some classes that run twice a week, but for only 7 of the 14 weeks. So with compressed classes, time management is paramount.

So out first 2 assignments in GRA210 (Graphic Design 1) involved once piece demonstrating the 4 elements of effective design (Contrast, Repetiton, Alignment and  Proximity) or CRAP for short. The second one involved selecting one god awful ad from a list and improving vastly on it.

27th letter of the alphabet

Kind of interesting in-class project done in Typography. Using the existing letters of the alphabet as reference, I was tasked to design a 27th letter to the alphabet. For my design, I removed half of the space from the "O" and then added the dot from the letter "i". It looks like some kind of alien symbol you'd find in crop circles.

Golden Section Visual Research Project

It's been a long time since I've had to do one of these things. I got a few of the pictures I took myself, to use as assets to complete the project. It would be easier to go on to Google Images and just save them to my hard drive, but I figured, I have some of the objects needed to complete the project. Why not use them? It was a great chance to help build up my photo cache as well.

I will admit, I was wrong about this project being boring. It was actually kind of interesting, especially, the "biomimicry" and the "Golden Section in Nature" sections were actually kind of cool to research.

Nike Shoe Magazine Advertisement

This is one of the possible ideas I've come up with for the Shoe Ad. This one features a pair of Nike Classics that I bought a few months ago. I'm unsure as to whether or not this will be the final ad, I have a pair of Air Jordan's and a pair of T-Mac 4's that would also look good in this ad, but this is all pending the amount of time I have left. The top image is the finished advertisement and the bottom image is the

photograph of my shoes.

"The Guitar Shop"

I drew this piece in my Colour Theory class in my Art Fundamentals program at Seneca College. I call this piece "The Guitar Shop". When you walk into the store, you see hundreds of guitars all hanging on the wall, then you see that one guitar that catches your eye. You then take it off the shelf and strum a few chords and see what it's like.
