Only the second time one of my cartoon characters has had glasses. Definitely something I'll explore further as glasses can help add more personality to a character.
This is my production blog. Everything done in my Graphic Design program, my Digital Media Arts Program, past work I've done in Art Fundamentals and personal projects will be posted here. Take a look around and enjoy!

Tribal drawing
I've done tribal designs once before in Illustrator: http://graemethedigitalmediaartist.blogspot.ca/2011/03/adobe-illustrator-tutorial-tribal.html. This is the first time I've drawn a tribal design by hand.

New Logo
Decided to update my logo for Gallery 91. Looking for something a little more clean cut. Here's the final result.

More sketchbook creations
Now that I have 2 and half weeks off before the start of my next semester, expect more drawings over the coming days and weeks.
An Alien character I got from the book "Awesome Things to Draw". It's primarily geared towards children's book illustrations, but it's still a good way to be introduced to drawing all kinds of things from animals, dinosaurs, monsters and vehicles. I've done some drawings from this book before: http://graemethedigitalmediaartist.blogspot.ca/2011/10/even-more-drawing-practice-from-book.html
A concept car that I found in a book titled "Start Your Engines" and it was created by Scott Robertson. The book is full of concept cars, tanks, bikes and even boats. Really cool book, lots of inspiration to be had. Will definitely try a few more of these sketches before I head back to school.

GRA160: Colour Theory Final Project
So this is the final project for my first semester of Graphic Design at Seneca College. This project really brings together a lot of skills/knowledge we've acquired throughout the semester such as tracing with the pen tool, graphic translation, focal point and colour compliments. Our task was to find a high-res photo of someone (I chose Olivia Wilde) showing the eyes, no hands and preferably not a lot of bare skin. Patterns and jewelry were also recommended as simplified tracings of them could yield some decent results.
Our first composition, after our initial trace, was to grayscale the image. No white or black, just varying shades of gray. This is our reference image for the other 3 compositions. The second composition is a black and white image with one or two pure hues as an accent colour. The fourth composition is a split complement using pure hues and shades. Let the analogous colours dominate the composition, but have the highest amount of contrast on the eyes/face; this applied for all 4 compositions. The third and quite possibly the hardest composition is a complementary colour with low chroma. The highest value you could achieve is about 60% saturation which was only to be used on the eyes and face, everything else, the saturation had to 30% or lower. The way you achieve contrast by this is to add black to the desaturated colour, thus creating tones.
This project was tough, but it was also a lot of fun, this was about 4 weeks in the making and I stand by the quality of my work. I enjoy tracing things in Illustrator with the Pen Tool, so I found this project to be a little more fun than most of my classmates.

Size and Scale project
A project from awhile ago. What we had to do was to choose two objects contrasting in form/shape (straight vs. curved etc.), draw them using cross hatching for shading, graphically translate the two objects and then arrange them into 6 different compositions based scaled up/down images.

6 different size compositions. The numbers indicated how much % the ball and knife had to be scaled down and up respectively.

GRA170: Book Binding
These 2 book binding assignments were by far, the most challenging and unique projects I've ever taken on. I never thought I would actually build books like these two. The tools used, especially the for the screw post book, were very interesting to use. In order to punch holes through for the screw post book, you had to use a tool that's like a hole puncher on steroids and then you have to whack the top of it with a rubber mallet so the holes get punched through.
After these assignments, I'm far more appreciative and a little less ignorant about the art of book binding. Definitely two assignments that will stick with me for awhile.

GRA130: Final Project
Our final exam project is to build a 2 page document about a typeface we selected at random. I ended up getting "Century" as my typeface. The first page was mainly just research about the typeface (designer, year, characteristics etc.) The second page allowed for more creativity such as setting the type as a headline, building a positive/negative composition and making a face using font characters, which I found to be the most interesting

GRA180: Pattern Project
So this is the final project for Drawing (GRA180). You first have to take a photograph taken by Karl Blossfeldt which you feel could be the base for your pattern design. You then trace the image, simplifying it-remove any unnecessary details. When you're satisfied with your trace, ink it. Use the ink version as your motif and design 4 motifs that demonstrate: translation, reflection, rotation and glide reflection.

Second Trace: I removed the highlights from both the surface of the plant and the outer edges for this trace. It allowed for some negative space to open up in between the leaves of the plant, which would look better as a graphic translation. Outlined in ink.

This is base for my 4 motifs.
Final Motifs
This is the first real "design" project assigned this semester. Challenging, but rewarding way to cap off the semester.

Translation
The final task was to combine at least 2 of motifs in order to build a tile for the final pattern. I chose the reflection and translation motifs. The colour palettes were chosen from this website: http://www.pantone.com/pages/fcr.aspx?pg=20948&ca=4
