Size and Scale project

A project from awhile ago. What we had to do was to choose two objects contrasting in form/shape (straight vs. curved etc.), draw them using cross hatching for shading, graphically translate the two objects and then arrange them into 6 different compositions based scaled up/down images.

6 different size compositions. The numbers indicated how much % the ball and knife had to be scaled down and up respectively.

The Negative Space project

After working through about 16 thumbnail sketches, I decided on this design. I choose these items because I like the "awkward" shape of the teapot and the curvature of the handles for the tongs. Roughed it out in pencil to get a better idea of the negative space in the composition.

Final copy, solid black using brush pens. I'm fairly happy with the way this composition turned out. I think there's a nice balance between positive and negative space in the composition.

Drapery Study

This is a drapery composition I drew in my Drawing 2 class in my Art Fundamentals program at Seneca College. Drawn using white and black conte on grey toned drawing paper. We spent about 2-3 weeks on drapery study, as it can be very tricky. As a final assignment, were asked to draw and model all the curves and folds of the drapery, using black conte for the shadows and white conte for the highlights in a composition we made ourselves. I'm quite satisfied with this drawing and I found it to be quite enjoyable.
